Chxrry, formerly known as Chxrry22 for our readers who were with us when we covered her in 2023. Has never really been gone—she’s just been building. Born Lydia Habtemariam, the Canadian-Ethiopian singer made a bold move to Atlanta in 2017, chasing a vision of becoming the next pop/R&B force. Years later, that vision is crystallizing in real time.

In 2022, she made history as the first female artist signed to XO Records, the imprint founded by The Weeknd. That same year, she introduced herself to a wider audience with her debut EP The Other Side, a project that firmly rooted her in the alt-R&B space—a lane where her airy vocals and moody production thrive.

Since then, Chxrry has been stacking moments. Tracks like “Poppin Out (Mistakes)” (2024) showcased her evolution, while “Favorite Girl” featuring Offset added a sleek, mainstream edge to her catalog. For longtime listeners, “The Falls” remains a defining record—one that captures the essence of her sound and emotional pull. Now, with “Groupie,” a more pop-leaning lead single, she’s signaling a new era ahead of her upcoming album.

And it’s not just the music. Chxrry’s presence has been steadily growing, fueled by anticipation and smart collaborations. Fans have been waiting on a teased link-up with Mariah the Scientist, a pairing that feels almost inevitable given their shared sonic worlds.

Her live performances only add to the momentum. Opening for British girl group FLO on their Access All Areas U.S. tour, Chxrry proved she can command a crowd. The audience response wasn’t passive—it was demanding. She didn’t just warm up the stage; she made people pay attention.

While she isn’t currently on tour, the groundwork is there. Whether it’s another supporting run or her own headlining tour, it feels less like a possibility and more like the next step.

So the real question isn’t whether Chxrry is back—it’s whether the world is finally catching up. With new music on the way and her trajectory pointing upward, she’s standing right at the edge of something bigger.

The iceberg is just the beginning.

What’s your favorite Chxrry record—and are you ready for what’s next?
