Blue Magic: Dom Jones and Precision Productions Claim 2026 with “The Blacker Berry”

If Cash Money Records owned the turn of the millennium, Dom Jones is officially calling dibs on 2026. With the release of her electrifying new single, “The Blacker Berry,” Jones isn’t just releasing music; she’s staking a claim on the cultural zeitgeist. As part of the rollout for her highly anticipated forthcoming EP, 2.0, the track continues her innovative conceptual journey of using colors to define sound. This latest offering pulls listeners into a “deep blue” room—a curated, judgment-free space designed for a multisensory party. It is a masterclass in “main character energy,” where the dance floor remains packed and the vibrancy never dips, blending melodic allure with a sharp glimpse into Jones’s formidable rap skills.

The sonic architecture of the track is the result of a powerhouse partnership with longtime collaborator Kasey Phillips of Precision Productions. The groove is pure confidence, characterized by thick 808s and hi-hats that sit perfectly in the pocket with zero wasted motion. Jones’s vocals snap into the rhythm with surgical precision, transforming the record from a mere song into a full-body statement. This synergy is no fluke; it is the byproduct of an extraordinary creative marathon where Jones and Phillips recorded over 100 songs in a single year, refining a chemistry that feels both effortless and unstoppable.

A Pedigree of Excellence

The collaboration brings together two of the industry’s most disciplined overachievers. Dom Jones, an Oakland-bred, LA-based multi-hyphenate, is a Berklee College of Music alumna whose trophy case includes the ASCAP Foundation Jay Gorney Award and wins in the International Songwriting Competition. Her work has already permeated the mainstream, appearing on platforms like Netflix and Hulu and in campaigns for brands like Nissan. For Jones, the mission is dual-faceted: ascending as a world-class artist while simultaneously building the executive ecosystem she wants to see for the future of the industry.

Complementing her vision is Kasey Phillips, a titan of production whose roots trace back to Trinidadian musical royalty. As the head of Precision Productions and a Sony Music Publishing signee, Phillips has bridged the gap between Caribbean soul and U.S. chart-topping success. With credits ranging from Ciara and Chris Brown’s viral hit “How We Roll” to work with Shaggy and BLXCKIE, Phillips brings a global perspective and a “Grammy-level” ear to the project. Together, they have crafted a sound that feels local to the club but global in its reach. As 2.0 prepares for its full release later this year, “The Blacker Berry” serves as a bold invitation to dance like nobody’s watching—and smile because everyone is.
