LMARX is the compelling new voice emerging from Florida’s vibrant R&B scene. Blending the smooth, intimate stylings of contemporary rhythm and blues with a distinct regional flavor, his music has begun to carve out a unique space in the crowded genre landscape. Beyond the melodies, LMARX is an artist who values sincerity and the craft of songwriting, bringing a polished yet raw energy to every track. We sat down to discuss the influences that shaped his sound and his vision for the future of Florida R&B.

Magazine Interview Questions for LMARX

CHRD: Florida R&B has a distinct feel, often blending classic soul with Trap or Dancehall rhythms from the Caribbean influences in the state. How has the specific culture and sonic landscape of Florida—from Miami to Jacksonville—shaped the core sound and lyrical themes of your music?

LMARX: My R&B has that bounce, but there’s still emotion and storytelling in it. Miami brings the rhythm, Jacksonville gives that grit, and I try to meet somewhere in the middle—smooth melodies over beats that still knock. While focusing on the art of storytelling about making love and also being loved on as well.

CHRD: In an era where R&B often crosses over into mainstream Pop and Hip Hop, what elements or standards do you feel are essential to maintain the integrity of modern R&B? When you are writing and producing, how do you decide which tracks need to lean into a pop structure versus staying true to a more classic R&B groove?

LMARX: For me, R&B has always been about emotion first — that real, honest passion you can feel. No matter how much it blends with Pop or Hip Hop, the integrity stays in the feeling. It’s in the vocal delivery, the harmonies, the way the melody moves with the words. When I’m creating, I start with the emotion and let the production follow that.

Your stage name, LMARX, is unique. What is the story or meaning behind the name, and how does it represent the persona or the artistic mission you are bringing to the world of R&B?

I always felt that being a performer you have to become someone different than who you are throughout your daily life. using my middle name, Lamar as my stage name was given to me by someone very special to me and Lamar to them was someone they really enjoyed being around. And so, I just added the X based off what you see on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram? They all link to one another when it comes down to these videos you know what I’m talking about.

(laughs)

So that’s the type of music I make because it falls in a category, so why not throw the X behind it Just to stand out and be different from the other Lamar’s if their using that as their stage name.

Yeah, I know it sounds bipolar, but being an artist, it allows me to use that energy and channel it in my music. So now everyone gets this experience, Lamar – the way she did, just not in a physical way. The mission that I’m bringing it to the R&B World is bringing it back, that lust, that desire to want your lover, not just for one night but from that one night and forever ever even if it’s just a memory that plays in their head.
