Stoke-on-Trent, UK, is known for its straightforward character, and indie-pop artist Jorge Wilson brings that same disarming honesty to his music. Describing his sound as “modern vintage,” Wilson is perfectly fusing the charm of the past with the edge of today, cementing his place as one of the genre’s most exciting new voices with the release of his groove-led single, “Gemini.”

The Freedom of Independence

For years, Wilson honed his craft playing in a band but ultimately felt restricted in expressing his true self. Taking a leap of faith, he launched his solo project in late 2023, embracing a fierce independence guided by a simple, yet powerful mantra: “Listen to nobody.” This self-reliance has become the backbone of his work; he writes, performs, and produces much of his own material, allowing for a sound that is an authentic reflection of who he is and who he’s becoming.

This spirit shines through on “Gemini.” The track is an infectious celebration of vulnerability, capturing the thrill of letting someone finally see your true, dual nature—the self beneath the surface.

Wilson’s music is a rich tapestry woven from diverse influences, drawing inspiration from contemporary innovators like Mac DeMarco, Steve Lacy, and The 1975.

“Gemini” in particular showcases this blend of eras. Written after an impromptu moment of inspiration with a friend’s guitar, the track channels a love for both ‘80s icons such as Men At Work and Michael Jackson (with the song’s guitar solo notably inspired by “Beat It”) and the current wave of artists like Alfie Templeman and Tame Impala.

Recorded with producer Steven Griffiths (known for his work with The Editors and Mothica) at Dead Door Studios, the track’s central theme is the idea of duality—the hidden side of a person that only becomes visible once you’ve gotten close enough. This concept of the Gemini twin nature is delivered through a seamless blend of nostalgic textures and forward-thinking production, perfectly capturing Wilson’s “modern vintage” aesthetic.

Since his solo debut, Wilson’s magnetic sound has already earned strong support from BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio USA, alongside local features in The Sentinel and numerous playlist placements. With “Gemini,” Jorge Wilson proves that sometimes, the best way to find your voice is to trust your own instincts and “listen to nobody.”
