Atlanta’s Camp Creek area, known for its vibrant social scene, was the epicenter of a lyrical masterclass on a recent Wednesday night as CRU Lounge packed out for an exclusive listening party for Southside rapper, Jiggs. The event, celebrating a sneak preview of his upcoming project Liotta’s Way, was a powerful statement on the rising independent star’s trajectory.

Jiggs, alongside his rhyme partner Berg, has built a grassroots following over the past couple of years through viral videos that, as veteran Atlanta DJ DJ Omezy once put it, simply showed them “rapping their ass off.” This no-gimmicks approach to lyricism paid off, with their 2024 project Belly of The Beast impressively garnering over 400k independent streams.

The crowd at CRU Lounge was electric, a testament to the anticipation surrounding Jiggs’ new material. His signature sound—a fusion of hard-hitting verses over beats laced with classic West Coast or East Coast samples—was on full display. Track after track, the rapper cemented his reputation as a true student of the rap game, his lyrical prowess shining through.

The album title, Liotta’s Way, and Jiggs’ self-adopted moniker, “Ray Liotta,” offer a clever nod to a classic era of hip-hop—the ’90s. It’s a throwback to when icons like Nas (Escobar), Raekwon (Lex Diamonds), and The Notorious B.I.G. (Frank White) created cinematic alter egos based on mob film characters. This self-assured homage is perfectly mirrored in his delivery.

Lyrically, Jiggs takes listeners on a journey that feels like a stylistic hybrid of ’95 Nas/Jay-Z lyricism, all filtered through the unmistakable, 2006 T.I.-esque Southern bravado and self-assurance. It’s a unique blend that is clearly resonating. Judging by the sheer energy and anxiety of the jam-packed crowd, who hung on every word, Liotta’s Way is poised to be another major success for the independent powerhouse.

With his streaming numbers already defying expectations for an artist on his own terms, the palpable buzz at the listening party served as a clear foreshadowing of the success to come. Fans everywhere can definitively look forward to pressing play on Liotta’s Way.
