Remembering the Soul: Kiyan Foroughi, Substantial, and Rachelle Ruby Chart a Journey Inward

In an era where the music industry often prioritizes viral loops over visceral storytelling, Singapore-based producer and cultural storyteller Kiyan Foroughi is charting a different course—one that travels through the furthest reaches of the galaxy only to land firmly within the human soul. On February 27th, 2026, Foroughi released his debut concept album, inner light. OUTER SPACE., a cinematic tapestry of cosmic neo-soul, hip-hop, and jazz. Far from a mere collection of tracks, the album is a non-linear odyssey inspired by the Sufi philosophy of Rumi and the “shadow work” of Carl Jung, following a female protagonist navigating mythic trials and alien worlds to find the most elusive treasure of all: self-recognition.

Foroughi’s music is a reflection of his own nomadic history, born in France to Iranian parents and having lived in Paris, Dubai, Boston, New York, and London before settling in Singapore. This “cultural translation” allows him to bridge East and West, drawing a direct line between the atmospheric textures of Vangelis and Massive Attack and the rhythmic soul of J Dilla and the Soulquarians. The result is a sophisticated, cosmopolitan sound that feels entirely new to the Southeast Asian music scene, bolstered by an international cast including actor Darius Homayoun of Succession fame, rapper Masia One, and vocalist Rachelle Ruby, whose soulful performance anchors the album’s emotional core.

The album’s thesis statement arrives in the form of its ninth track, “The Destination,” featuring the legendary Maryland-born rapper Substantial. Known as the most frequent collaborator of the late, iconic producer Nujabes, Substantial delivers a masterclass in conscious rap across three verses that chart the evolution from external searching to internal integration. Foroughi sought out Substantial specifically for his ability to carry the weight of this mythology with a grounded clarity formed by true experience. In a powerful dialogue between seeking and knowing, Rachelle Ruby appears here as the “higher self,” providing an ethereal counterpoint to Substantial’s bars and revealing that the voice guiding the protagonist was her own all along.

The journey to this release has unfolded like a series of chapters, beginning with the hopeful debut single “Seas of Space” in late 2025 and continuing through the seductive, 80s synth-wave collision of “Beautiful Distraction.” While those tracks explored the moments of stepping into the unknown and “forgetting on purpose,” “The Destination” serves as the final moment of integration. It resolves the internal battles found in earlier tracks like “Shadow of the Enchantress,” proving that the journey was never about reaching the stars, but about remembering that the seeker was always a part of them.

Kiyan Foroughi and Rachelle Ruby represent a unique dual-existence as both tech entrepreneurs and profound artists, proving that the most innovative “startups” are often the ones that explore the human heart. By bridging the gap between high-concept philosophy and the raw grit of boom-bap and soul, inner light. OUTER SPACE. stands as a landmark release for 2026. It is a dense, rewarding experience that demands to be heard as a whole—a reminder that in a vast, cold universe, the warmest light is the one we carry within ourselves.
