Georgia Black: Untying the Knots of Modern Soul

There are singers, and then there are forces of nature. Georgia Black, the alternative R&B powerhouse hailing from North London, firmly belongs in the latter camp. With a voice as rich and commanding as a vintage Merlot, she’s not just performing—she’s holding court.

Inspired by the ultimate queens of command—the dramatic flair of Shirley Bassey, the raw grit of Etta James, and the cool elegance of Peggy Lee—Georgia has synthesized these iconic voices into something utterly her own. It’s a sound that’s both an immediate throwback and fiercely contemporary, blending her deep roots in Jazz, Blues, and Soul with sleek, modern production.

Georgia’s career didn’t just start; it exploded onto the scene. She first captivated the crowds as the frontwoman for Agent Provocateur’s show-band, Dirty Stop Out. Sharing stages with rock legends like The Clash’s Mick Jones and Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, she honed a stage presence that could fill venues from Camden’s KOKO to the glittering spectacle of Vienna’s Life Ball and Berlin Fashion Week.

Since those glamorous beginnings, Georgia has carved a lane that’s uniquely cinematic. As Earmilk perfectly put it, her music is “dripping with soulful, bluesy tones, making you feel as if you’re in a Bond movie.” It’s a vibe that’s raw, timeless, and perfectly suited for the screen.

Her magnetism isn’t just felt in the music world. She has supported soul royalty like Omar, collaborated with Jalen Ngonda, and even starred in Punchdrunk’s acclaimed immersive theatre hit, The Drowned Man. It was there that she gained a fan in a certain TV icon: Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad fame, who famously called her “amazing” after seeing her perform. (And yes, the audience list for that run also featured names like Adele, Prince Harry, and Madonna—talk about an elite crowd!)

Most recently, her music took center stage in a major way: five of her tracks, including her new singles “Ruler” and “Kicks,” were featured in the feature film State of Consciousness, starring Emile Hirsch. The powerful focus track, “The Golden Doors,” cemented her place as a sonic storyteller bridging emotional depth with the cinematic world.

Georgia’s journey culminates in her most personal and daring album yet, Rope, produced by Nutty P. More than just a collection of songs, Rope is an exploration of power, surrender, and transformation.

At its core, the album is about breaking patterns in love and life, finding strength in vulnerability, and learning the critical art of when to hold on and when to let go.

  • The title track, “Rope,” captures the addictive, hypnotic pull of a toxic connection.
  • “Ruler” is a fierce anthem celebrating the moment you step fully into your own power.
  • “Kicks” is pure sonic revelry—a celebration of untamed chemistry, rhythm, and release.

Through Rope, Georgia Black redefines vulnerability not as a weakness, but as the ultimate form of power. Shaped by loss, love, and rebirth, the album uses cosmic imagery to thread together real, raw human experience—untangling the knots that hold us back and transforming them into something fierce, soulful, and completely liberating.

This album is every chapter of Georgia’s story so far, tied together by a voice that is as timeless as it is absolutely fearless.
