CHRD: Your new single “Call Me” showcases a more melodic and vulnerable side of your artistry, dealing with themes of being a steadfast confidant for a loved one. Was the decision to open up this emotional lane deliberate, and how does this new vulnerability connect with the “street-smart lyricism” your core fanbase is accustomed to?
RPG SHAD: It’s something that everybody can relate to that been through it some point in their life, dealing with love and heartache, and it shows that men are very emotional as well, but it’s afraid to show it. This track shows that a man can show sympathy in love.
CHRD: The title of your upcoming 2026 EP, The Darkside, suggests an exploration of deeper, perhaps heavier themes. What is the central narrative or emotional space you’re inviting listeners into with this project, and how does it represent an evolution from your previous work?
RPG SHAD: It represents my darkest side and is deeper into thought of my lyrics and expression in pain through music to show the world how deep it can really get in my dark side.
CHRD: Your moniker, RPG, stands for “Real People helping each other Grind,” and you’re well-known for your work connecting artists and managing relationships in the Atlanta scene. How does maintaining that role as a “connector” influence your own creative process, and what’s the biggest piece of advice you’d give to a young Atlanta artist stepping into the industry today?
RPG SHAD: Always stay true to yourself no matter what people think, you are you so be you in the world with respect. Make good music, stay consistent with a drive that you want to win!
CHRD: Atlanta’s sound is constantly evolving. As an artist deeply embedded in the city’s fabric, how do you balance paying homage to the Atlanta and New York foundations you came up on, with integrating the new melodic approaches and unorthodox production (like on your track “Call Me”) to ensure your music stays fresh and competitive?
RPG SHAD: Steady creating, evolving my sound intensely. Working on melodies to create something that no one else could create and take the world by storm with a new sound of music that can make you cry, make you dance, make you laugh, make you enjoy your life.
